What is Thornæs Whiskey?

Thornæs Whiskey is brewed, distilled and matured in Kagerup, North Zealand. The whiskey is produced from 100% organically malted barley and rye and is processed as follows:

  • Brewing: 16 hectoliters semi lauter
  • Weekly brewing volume (Feb 24): 6500-7000 litres
  • Water supply: Kagerup waterworks (medium hard)
  • Fermentation: About 130 hours
  • Distillation stills: 3 x 1000 liter alembic pot stills
  • Distillation: Double distillation to approx. 71% alc./vol
  • Maturation: 50-500 liter casks
  • Filling strength: 58-64% alc./vol.
  • Barrel types: New European oak, Bourbon, sherry, pinot noir, muscatel, port, STR barrels, etc.
  • Total capacity at 71% alc./vol.: 40,000 litres
