Barrel share #203 - Chestnut and bourbon aged

We have filled a number of 112 liter new chestnut casks in 2021, which have since changed residence to 1st fill Bourbon casks. We are now offering a small number of dishes from one of these unique dishes.

Chestnut wood belongs to one of the more rare types of wood when it comes to maturing whiskey. Because the chestnut is particularly rich in both vanillin, furfural and phenols, the wood gives more notes of sweet caramel, vanilla, chocolate and sometimes mild smoke. The lower density of the wood also means that the spirit penetrates further into the wood, which affects both color and taste. After two years, the spirit is transferred to 1st fill Bourbon to ensure a milder and more controlled maturation.

• Four liters of finished whisky, equivalent to eight bottles of 50 cl. bottled at cask strength.

• Invitation to the barrel day, which is held once a year here at the distillery.

When you buy a cask share at Thornæs, you are automatically invited to Fadenes dag here at the distillery. Cask Day is a special day when we celebrate all the good whiskey that lies and matures in our casks. On the day there will be tastings and lots of extra info about the casks that are on the way and the whiskey that is ready to be enjoyed together.
