Thornæs Danish Whisky, Single Malt - Sofia - Lightly Peated

With Sofia, we let whisky from our new Bulgarian oak barrels meet a fully matured version from Sherry Oloroso barrels.

While the sherry-matured part is smoke-free, the European oak arrives with a mildly peat-smoked whisky that blends imperceptibly with its counterpart's dark notes of chocolate and raisins.

The result is an interesting dance between the sweet, the floral, the recognizably spicy and mildly smoky. We have chosen to call the edition Sofia - with a friendly nod to the Bulgarian metropolis close to the heart of the Balkans.

  • Classic aroma of caramel, honey, sweet spices and fresh oak
  • Toffee fudge with clear notes of honey, raisins, oak and smoldering smoke
  • Fine, long and slightly creamy aftertaste with gradually darker and vinous elements mixed with more smoke
