Creamy Caramel-Martinez
This creamy Martinez cocktail with a twist mixes Mad Owl London Dry Gin with sweet vermouth and caramel syrup (a traditional Martinez uses Marachino cherry liqueur instead of caramel syrup). We've also added an extra layer of luxury in the form of extra fat cream, which you can either whip and pour on top like an Irish Coffee or mix directly in. Finish with a little grated nutmeg on top. It's a wonderful way to find comfort on a cold winter's evening.
Ingredients
- 4.5 cl Mad Owl London Dry Gin
- 4.5 cl sweet vermouth
- 5 ml caramel syrup
- 2 drops Angostura Bitter
- Ice cubes
- 0.5 dl Double Cream (cream with 50% fat - can be replaced by whipping cream of 38%)
- Grated nutmeg as a garnish
Procedure method
- Pour the gin, vermouth, syrup and bitters into a mixing glass with ice and stir until cold.
- Strain into a coupe or martini glass.
- Slowly and carefully pour the double cream on top using the back of a spoon. This creates more layers in the drink. You can also mix the cream directly in to achieve a delicious creamy consistency.
- Grate nutmeg over the cocktail and serve!

These cocktails are all you need to warm up and let the Christmas cheer spread. We have everything from a liquid apple pie in a highball glass to a warming winter combination of a Bramble Negroni.
Craft Gin Club has both developed the recipe and taken the beautiful photos of the cocktail. In November 2021, a special edition of Thornæs Mad Owl Gin Citrus was the Craft Gin Club's gin of the month, after which it won the title of "foreign gin of the year".
